The Sermon on the Mount

The vision for the Salt and Light evangelistic campaign started with Jesus' words at the Sermon on the Mount.

The three chapters of Matthew that record this sermon are critical to our understanding of the Christian life. In the beatitudes (Matt 5: 3-10), Jesus explains the principles of His kingdom to a general audience. Beginning in verse 11, He speaks directly to His disciples, changing from “blessed are those . . .” to “blessed are you . . .”

Immediately after commanding His disciples to rejoice in suffering, Jesus explains the disciples' role in society. We are called to be the salt of the earth and light of the world.
