Bethel Complex
Through the last three years, God has put a vision in our hearts. We want to start a new self-support program, the income from which can be used to aid our ministry in the city. This project will have 3 aims:
- To generate income that can be used to further our ministry in Hunedoara
- To offer training in professional skills to young people, in order to help them find a job
- To continue our outreach to the disadvantaged people of our city.
The Bethel Complex will be based over four floors:
- The bottom floor will house the Joseph Project, a workshop for woodwork and carpentry. We currently run the Tabitha Project at the Bethel Centre, which helps young women and mothers to gain qualifications in sewing. The Joseph Project will run parallel to the Tabitha Project, offering the same opportunities for young men, and also for people with disabilities. For this project, we have nurtured a partnership with a wood company from France, who has offered us all the equipment and materials we will need to start the project, as well as paying the salary of an Instructor to work at the complex for at least a year. Through this project, we hope to create a sustainable workplace, which can generate its own profit, making furniture, windows and other items.
- The second floor will be home to a charity shop. We have connections with two charities from France and Germany who are willing to send us stock to sell at the shop. We have already started to sell new furniture that has been brought to us from France, but we currently do not have a suitable space to sell these kinds of products.
- The third floor will be used for a dental clinic. We already have a dental chair and dental equipment here in Hunedoara, with more equipment, and another chair arriving from France at the beginning of 2010. We will offer reduced prices compared with the other clinics in town, and we will also have the opportunity to provide some free dental care through the facilities.
- The fourth floor will contain three rentable apartments, available for visitors, and anyone else requiring accommodation.
Thus far, we have bought the existing property, currently with one floor, which we wish to extend by a further three floors. The surface area is 160 square meters per floor, giving a total of 640 square meters overall. We have some draft plans from our architect, and we are in the process of finalizing the plans for the project. The total cost of the project will be $120,000.
We estimate that through the four projects, we will be able to generate a profit of around $3,000 per month. Currently, this figure would cover a third of our monthly budget as a charity.
